Our Story
Established in the 1930s under the vision of Sir Mirza Ismail, the then Diwan of Mysore, Brindavana Gardens was inspired by the Shalimar Gardens of Kashmir. Designed by the celebrated engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the garden was created to complement the majestic Krishnaraja Sagar Dam and to provide a space where nature, art, and engineering come together.

The Brindavan Gardens boast a rich history that intertwines with the development of the Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) Dam. Here's a breakdown of its fascinating past:
Conception and Construction (1927-1932):
- 1927: Construction of the KRS Dam begins.
- Visionary Leader: Sir Mirza Ismail, the then Diwan (chief minister) of Mysore, played a key role. He envisioned beautifying the dam site and fostering public recreation.
- Inspiration: The design draws inspiration from the famous Mughal-era Shalimar Gardens of Kashmir. Sir Mirza Ismail's own love for horticulture also shaped the gardens.
- A Team Effort: The Department of Horticulture worked alongside the dam construction to bring the Brindavan Gardens to life.
- Completion: By 1932, the gardens were complete, ready to welcome visitors.
Naming and Significance:
- Brindavan Connection: The gardens were named after "Brindavan," the mythical abode of Lord Krishna. This reflects the emphasis on beauty and serenity.
- Double Duty: The gardens weren't just about aesthetics. They were also intended as a place for relaxation and enjoyment for the public.
